Day 1:  Travel from Muscat to Seeb, traditional souq & fish market.  From here we will travel through Barka to Sohar.  Sohar was one of the biggest economic centres of the Middle Ages.  Sohar is as old as Oman itself and was the centre of mining and trade with India and the Far East.  We will check-in to our hotel on arrival and after a short break we will visit the Sohar Fort built in 1294.  This fort was built during the reign of the Prince of Hormuz.  It has a 10km long escape tunnel that would have been used during sieges.  There is a fascinating museum which provides information about the geology and history of the region.  There will be time to enjoy beach walking and to see the fish market in the evening.

Day 2:  Next morning we will drive to Khasab (crossing the Emirates border) to Daba traveling through the mountains.  The journey to Khasab will offer amazing views of rugged landscape and winding roads.  We will be crossing Ru'us al Jabal "Head of the Mountain" which plunges dramatically into the sea.  Khasab is the capital of the Musandam Peninsula which is the smallest and most northerly region of Oman.  Its rocky headland juts out into the Strait of Hormuz, giving it strategic domination over one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world.  On arrival we will check in and take a short break.  Next, we will take a tour of Khasab through the mountains with incredible views of the ocean.  The coastline is dramatic with fingers of fragmented rock reaching claw-like into the sea, creating long khawrs (fjords) and inlets.

Day 3:  After breakfast you will have a full day on a dhow cruise in the Gulf of Oman.  This is a visually stunning experience as you move through the amazing passages of water straddled by brilliant rock formations.  Traveling through the sea is the best way to experience Musandam.  You will travel through calm, clear waters which are flanked by high cliffs that drop dramatically into the sea.  You can enjoy swimming and snorkeling and a great chance to see dolphins.

Day 4:  Next morning after breakfast we will depart Khasab with long lasting memories of brilliant fjords and barren mountains.  On the return trip to Muscat we will experience more of Oman with stops along the way at points of interest.  We will enjoy lunch in Sohar with time for a final beach walk before returning to Muscat.
